STEP 1: GRADE LEVEL PATHWAYS

Select a pathway below to learn more about the educational options for your child this fall in the Redmond School District

In Redmond School District:

    • It is our primary goal to ensure that student learning is taking place five days per week, regardless of location.
    • We are developing reopening plans with strong consideration for how to best serve and support the academic learning and social emotional needs of every student.
    • We are taking into account the differentiated needs of all students, including those in focal populations and the specialized support required by our students with special needs.

STEP 2: EXPLORE YOUR OPTIONS

Grades 6-12 On-Site and Online

Hybrid Learning blends the intimacy and immediacy

of traditional face-to-face instruction with

the flexibility of online learning.

Grades K-12 Online

Online learning creates opportunities for students to learn

flexibly from home while maintaining direct contact with

teachers through online tools and resources.

HYBRID OPTION FOR

STUDENTS IN GRADES 6-12

A hybrid model reduces the number of students in the building by moving some of the course delivery online. Hybrid learning lends itself to individualized learning, collaboration via online discussions, and several modes of interacting with course content for different learning styles.

Overview

  • Students can expect to be learning 5 days a week with assignments, lessons, projects and extension activities happening both in class and online on days when students are learning from home.
  • Students will be assigned to one of two cohorts. Each cohort, or group of students, will be assigned specific days of the week to attend school on-site. Family members in the same household will be assigned to the same cohort group and attend school on the same days.
  • In a typical week students will have two days of on-site instruction at their school and three days of online instruction at home.
  • Estimated class size will range between 15 and 20 students.

Instruction

  • Teachers provide instruction, connection and deep learning experiences five days a week. Students access instruction in-person on designated days of the week.
  • Teachers focus on both academics and social-emotional learning and skill building.
  • Teachers use Canvas Learning Management System as a resource to ensure that students continue their learning in a meaningful way on days they are not in the school building.
  • Teachers focus learning expectations on priority standards and provide meaningful and ongoing feedback about student progress.
  • When on campus, students can expect that they will be in a cohort of peers and may attend classes a majority of their day with a common group of students.

Students and Staff Health and Safety

  • Practice safe social distancing to the greatest extent possible
  • Post signage and provide lessons to strongly encourage frequent hand washing and hygiene practices
  • Increase cleaning protocols throughout each campus including playgrounds and equipment
  • Limit group gatherings
  • Encourage face coverings on campus
  • Expect symptom screening for all staff and students
  • Once identified, ensure any staff or students who exhibit symptoms are not at school or in the workplace
  • Efforts will be made to limit/reduce transitions (student movement) where possible
  • Limit visitors and volunteers to essential personnel only

Health and safety protocols will be described for each school in their Operational Blueprint for School Reentry, which will be posted on school websites.

The Hybrid choice will be the default option for all students in grades 6-12 unless parents complete the full time online enrollment process.

FULL TIME ONLINE OPTION FOR

STUDENTS IN GRADES 6-12

Online learning creates opportunities for students to learn flexibly from home while maintaining direct contact with teachers through online tools and resources. This option will include a fully developed and vetted online curriculum taught by Redmond School District teachers. Canvas Learning Management System will provide the common platform for content delivery and live two way collaboration and instruction on scheduled days and times during the week. Students will also have opportunities to get individual support from their teachers as needed.

Overview:

  • We are asking families who are selecting this option to commit for the 2020/21 school year.
  • Students participate in online learning 5 days per week and enroll in a full load of courses
  • Courses for students in grades 6th through 12th are supported by a team of highly-qualified Redmond teachers who offer and post office hours Monday through Friday.
  • Students will access their courses through Canvas learning management system which will mirror what’s being used in all RSD classrooms
  • Personalized support and tutoring will be available as needed

Instruction

  • This full-time online school experience is ideal for students who wish to have more control over their learning path and pace, and for whom a flexible daily schedule is important.
  • Live two way video, and ongoing communication will be a consistent feature for students.
  • Enrollment requires a trimester-long or year-long commitment, as well as an adult who can partner with teachers by serving as the learning guide for the student.
  • This full time online option offers a rigorous curriculum, access to academic advisement and college planning, and opportunities for advanced coursework.

What to Expect:

  • Students are expected to engage and log in on a daily basis for attendance and make weekly progress based upon pacing guides for completion of courses.  Students who do not log in on a daily basis and make weekly progress will be strongly encouraged to participate in the Hybrid option.
  • We are asking families who are selecting this option to commit for the 2020/21 school year.

ALL IN OPTION FOR

STUDENTS IN GRADES K-5

This model represents a return to the school campus and the classroom where students will interact directly with their teacher(s) and classmates.  If you do not select the Online option for your student, then this will be the default selection.  The school day will be similar to the standard schedule, which includes all the core classes and other subject areas.  In short, it represents a return to the traditional school environment – with several significant changes involving enhanced health and safety precautions.

Our goal is to create an environment that provides an opportunity for students to return to school while providing effective safeguards to protect health and safety of students and staff.

Instruction

  • Classroom teachers provide instruction, connection and deep learning experiences five days a week. Students attend school fives days a week.
  • Teachers focus learning expectations on priority standards and provide meaningful and ongoing feedback about student progress.
  • Teachers focus on both academics and social-emotional learning and skill building.
  • Students will have access to the full breadth of school level resources and support.
  • All students will have access to individual chrome books.
  • Teachers will help students build confidence and competence in the use of digital tools through a single district wide learning management system called Canvas.  Canvas will be the one-stop-shop for students to access digital learning in the event we need to shift to remote learning at some point in the year.

Students and Staff Health and Safety
